Sacramento indie mainstays Sun Valley Gun Club have always had trouble pinning themselves to a genre. They might sometimes sound familiar. Their deeply personal and emotional lyrical content woven into beautifully crafted songs may bring to mind Pedro the Lion or their punk infused alt-country sensibilities may remind you of The Weakerthans. And sometimes the references may not be so obvious. That suits Sun Valley Gun Club just fine. Their unique brand of Rock has been called "nuanced and innovative" (SF Deli) and "endearingly loose" (San Jose Metro).
Since releasing their 2016 Self-Titled LP the band has played with such notable acts as The Front Bottoms, Jeff Rosenstock, Diarrhea Planet, Sorority Noise and Remo Drive, and 2018 is shaping up to be another busy year. Their third full length album, “the water, the stars” is due out June 8th on Lauren Records. The effort was recorded throughout 2017 at the Atomic Garden in Palo Alto, CA by long-time friend and engineer Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Jeff Rosenstock).
