Nymphlord's debut album "Shedding Velvet" it out now and available on black vinyl with a 24" fold out insert.
Across its ten tracks, Shedding Velvet traces the messy space between who you thought you’d be and who you’ve become – where ambition, self-doubt, humor, and habit collide. The album moves through uneasy self-reflection (“Paper or Plastic?”), adolescent memory and unease ("Star"), working-life disillusionment (“Garden"), and emotional freefall (“Emptiness”), building a world that’s intimate, self-aware, and often quietly unhinged.
Sonically, the record pulls from ’90s alt and earlier folk traditions, but never settles in one place. Acoustic sketches stretch into blown-out distortion, and hushed confessionals give way to sharp turns and sudden release. Rather than smoothing those edges, Nymphlord leans into them, letting songs feel slightly off-balance, unresolved, and alive.
“When they first start to grow, a deer’s antlers are cocooned by a protective layer of peach fuzz, skin that will peel back once the antlers reach their full size. This surprisingly bloody process called ‘Shedding Velvet’ is this album’s namesake. A lot of the songs on this album were inspired by a similar itchy, unsettled feeling I had - struggling with my own identity as an artist, a woman, and a sapling trying to solidify my place on what felt like pretty barren land.
At the same time, I’ve always been an optimist, so even amidst the angst I think you’ll find a lot of hope and even a little bit of fun on this album. We definitely had fun making it, over a delirium-inducing ten days straight recording process last winter in Brooklyn. Katie (the album’s producer) is a bit of a dr. Doolittle and you can hear her sweet pet bird Ursula singing on a few of the songs. Our canary in a coal mine - hasn’t plopped yet!!”

About Nymphlord
Raised in the wooded foothills of Northern California, Nymphlord bubbled up from a unique brew of '90s rock, Laurel Canyon acoustic guitar plucks, and bush-whacked suburban trail walks. Influenced by whisper-in-your-ear punk performances combined with an unshakeable love of Top 40 radio, the Nymphlord sound is angsty, ethereal, hopeful, and dissonant. Danceable, even when the lyrics are low and the mic is too close. Persistently intimate, acoustic strums morph into cavernous electric screams and feminist themes are explored through the lens of little moments both romantic and platonic.
